About UN-Habitat Iraq

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. UN-Habitat has been active in Iraq since 1996. Its current portfolio includes both developmental programmes, such as addressing challenges surrounding informal settlements, and humanitarian programmes, such as rehabilitating war-damaged houses and protection of housing, land and property rights.
