Tracking Policy
This site uses Matomo to analyse user behaviour. Cookies collect information about user behaviour on the site, including the abbreviated IP address of the device being used, and send it to the server. The server anonymises the information and stores it for the purpose of analysing user behaviour. The state of current technology ensures that once information has been anonymised, it can no longer be traced back to the originating device or connection. Information produced by cookies is shared only with the internally operated server. It is never shared or passed on to third parties. Data is processed on the basis of Article 6 (1 e) of the GDPR within the framework of public relations work and for the needs-based design of information on this website.
Planned transfers of data to third countries
As a general principle, data will not be shared or transferred to third countries.
Retention of data
Personal data are regularly deleted when
- they are no longer needed for contractual purposes (e.g. for employment, top-ups, rental, sale or service contracts)
- when the individuals concerned have not given any separate authorization
- when statutory data storage obligations and periods have expired.
Reference to user rights
You are entitled to object to processing your personal data, to enquire about your personal data and its processing, to have the data corrected if necessary, and to request restriction of processing or the erasure of the data. The data will then be erased.
If you have any questions or complaints about this website, please contact the GIZ data protection officer (datenschutzbeauftragter@giz.de). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the responsible data protection supervisory authority. The responsible authority in this case is the German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).
Processing of personal data in connection with social network use
On its website, GIZ invites users to visit its company presence on social networking sites and platforms including, but not limited to, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
These online presences are operated in order to interact with the users that are active on these sites and platforms and to inform them about projects and services. By clicking on a social network’s logo, the user is redirected to the GIZ presence on the respective network.
When users visit the platforms, personal data is collected, used and stored by the operators of the respective social network, but not by GIZ. This is also the case even if the users themselves do not have an account with the respective social network.
The individual data processing operations and their scope differ depending on the operator of the respective social network. GIZ has no influence on the collection of data or its further use by the social network operators. We are not fully aware of the extent to which, where and for how long the data is stored; to what extent the networks comply with existing obligations regarding erasure; what analyses are conducted and links established with the data; and to whom the data is disclosed.
Access to GIZ social media sites is subject to the terms of use and privacy policies of the respective operators. Click here for the contact details and links to the data privacy policies of the social media on which GIZ maintains a presence.

YouTube: Enhanced data protection
On this webpage, videos hosted on Youtube are integrated. The videos will only be displayed after you have given consent to comply with Youtube’s privacy policy. Prior to your active consent, no data will be transmitted to Youtube.
We use YouTube’s enhanced privacy mode. According to YouTube, no information about the visitor is stored before they watch the video. However, the enhanced privacy mode does not necessarily preclude the sharing of information with Youtube partners. For instance, Youtube connects to the Google DoubleClick network regardless of whether visitors watch a video.
For this reason, we have implemented a two-click solution on our webpage, which informs users that data may be transferred to Youtube once the embedded content is being activated. The user has to actively agree so that the content is being displayed, and a possible data transfer starts.
