About Laura Alfers

Laura Alfers is the Director of the Social Protection Programme at WIEGO, where she has worked for the past 13 years, supporting organisations of informal workers to access better social protection as well as health and childcare services globally. She holds a PhD from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and is a Research Associate at the Neil Aggett Labour Studies Unit at Rhodes University, also in South Africa. Laura is the co-editor of the recent volume Social Contracts and Informal Workers in the Global South.
