About Cathy McIlwaine

Cathy McIlwaine has been researching gender and international development issues for over 25 years with reference to poverty, violence, employment, and migration in cities. Her research has always tried to connect across academic and policy boundaries and has entailed working with international organisations such as the World Bank and UN-Habitat as well as with smaller NGOs in the global South and the UK. She has published eleven books including most recently Dores que Liberam (with Miriam Krenzinger, Eliana Sousa Silva and Paul Heritage [2018], Attis) and Cities, Slums and Gender in the Global South (with Sylvia Chant [2016], Routledge), as well as over 40 journal papers.
