About João Luís Bittencourt Guimarães
João is a Forest Engineer (graduated in 1996 at Federal Paraná University, Brazil) with a master's degree in Nature Conservation (2000, UFPR), recognized in Portugal by Agronomics Superior Institute – University of Lisbon (2022). He has more than 25 years of professional experience in the following areas: 1) Nature Conservation; 2) Geoprocessing and Remote Sensing; 3) Assessment and Modeling of Ecosystem Services, 4) Payment for Environmental Services, 5) Water Resources, Hydrology and Watershed Management, 6) Priority Analysis for Conservation and Restoration, 7) Mechanisms for Conservation of Public and Private Lands, 8) Economic Instruments for Conservation, 9) Nature-Based Solutions. He has worked initially in the consultancy sector (Montgomery Watson Brasil), then in the environmental department of a big company of mining sector (Vale S.A.), and for environmental non-governmental organizations, as Boticário Group Nature Protection Foundation, The Nature Conservancy Brazil and Fauna & Flora International. Since 2016 João owns a small environmental consultancy company, Aquaflora Meio Ambiente (specialties: Ecosystem Services and Nature-Based Solutions). Aquaflora developed many consultancy jobs and trainings related to planning, development and implementation of programs/projects related to Nature-based Solutions, Ecosystem Services, Payments for ecosystem services, Climate Change Adaptation and GIS-based Conservation/Restoration Planning. João participated in a series of publications related to ecosystem services, Payment for Environmental services and Nature-based Solutions. Native Portuguese speaker, he also speaks English and French.
