About Markus Maier

Markus Maier is a Development Advisor at the Local Governance Reform Programme based in Ramallah. He works on the institutionalisation process of Social Accountability in Palestine. Before joining GIZ, he worked at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on the development of training courses for diplomats from developing countries. He holds a MSc. in International Conflict and Cooperation from the University of Stirling and a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from Ludwig Maximilians University Munich.

Social Accountability interventions at the local government level can bring about actual, significant improvement of living conditions for citizens. The Palestinian territories are presently at the stage of transitioning from locally focused pilot interventions towards a national institutionalisation process that encompasses all municipalities.
